Methodology Mission 1

For the methodology mission I grouped up with two of my other classmates Keith and Mia, we formed our group because we were all interested in working on digital journalism, we felt that this was the appropriate topic for us as it was the most understandable one to us and we felt that it will be the most interesting topic to do out of all the ones that were offered to us. We were excited to do this project because the output had to be a video.

We read the description of what is expected of us for this mission and read over the tools that we could use to complete this mission. The goals for our mission was for us to learn the history between journalism and media technologies, how the internet has made it possible for us to communicated in new ways and how digital tools make it possible for us to do new kinds of research possible.

After we settled on what the goals for our mission are going to be we decided to try and learn about the tools that were provided to us on moodle, some were easier to use and understand than others, we found StoryMap Js and StoryLine Js to be the most interesting ones that we could use for our project.

We stumbled across some difficulties during the project as we found it a bit confusing on what exactly we had to make the video on, we had many ideas for the project but we didnt know how to expand on them. In one of the labs we had the lecturer explain to us what would be the best way to proceed.

We came to the conclusion that we wanted to use the StoryMap tool provided to us on moodle, our idea was to do our own version of Jack The Ripper and his murders in the Whitechapel area, that way we could use the StoryMap tool to show where each one of his murders took place, also including a pretend interview of the victims friends and we wanted our finished video to have a 'news' feel to it.

The resources that we found helpful in doing this mission were sites such as Wikipedia and Youtube to find information about the murders. After we decided on what we wanted our finished product to look we moved on to actually filming everything.
